What is Tor Mór?

Tor Mór is Irish for 'Big Rock'. Located here to the far right of the Glenn Mountains, in South West Donegal, Tor Mór stands as Irelands highest sea stack.
Tor Mór is a constant in our family's lives and is in the background of everything we do. Whether it's running after horses on the hills, going fishing on the boat, sitting in the garden with a hot cup of coffee early the morning, or watching a sky filled sunset wrapped in a blanket, Tor Mór stands like a beacon, gazing out so sea, across the Atlantic. And so this prominent feature seemed like the fitting prefix for our Mini Aussie Shepherds. |
Our Mini Aussie Story
Growing Up

Having spent much of our youth on a family farm, dogs have always been valued, as both family pets and working animals. Having great exposure to working livestock farms, we developed a strong connection with the Border Collie. We also have many fond memories of other breeds, both working and pets, that instilled a love and passion for the partnership that having a special dog brings to a family.
In recent years, we became aware of the MAS breed. Subsequently, we did extensive research and in making valuable connections across the Atlantic, and across Europe, with several MAS owners we were eventually able to begin our very own MAS journey here in Ireland. |
Tor Mór & Bluegrass USA

As the Miniature American Shepherd (MAS) breed originated from the USA, we thought this would be the best place to start our MAS story. With months of extensive research and patience we connected with "Bluegrass Kennels" in South Dakota, USA.
Bluegrass belongs to an amazing, passionate and virtuos breeder who, with the help of the extended family we very quickly developed a strong relationship with and became good friends. With their support we were able to acquire two beautiful females in Skye (pictured here) and Nala. As we had hoped both girls quickly became part of the family and have exceeded all expectations. Continued contact with Bluegrass has lead to a fruitful ongoing friendship with lots of shared experiences about life and dogs. |
Tor Mór & Lost River Germany

Having sourced suitable girls in the USA, we then needed to find a suitable stud. As we were unaware of any registered MAS breeders in Ireland, we once again travelled across the water. However, this time we journeyed East, to Lost River Germany.
Lost River belongs to another equally reputable and devoted MAS breeder. With a visit to Lost River in Germany and in particular Caleb (pictured here), we knew we had found our stud. After a return trip, this time with Nala and Skye, we soon had our very first Irish bred Tor Mór pups. A huge milestone in our journey, which will hopefully lead to a lifelong legacy of top quality Tor Mór bred Miniature American Shepherds. |
